Dance workshop in Pune for physically and mentally disability students, June 2014

The dance workshop was organized from 26th to 29th June, 2014 at Sai Sewa Dham, Kanhe Phata near Lonawala. About 70 participant students in the workshop were found to be extremely happy during the 4 day workshop. They were served sweets, health drinks after the workshop. On the final day Shri Yashwant Mankhedkar, Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Maharashtra region, and distinguished guests attended the Closing Ceremony. Certificates of Appreciation, gifts and ghungrus were distributed to these students.

A festival was organised by Kathak Dharohar for highlighting the case of male dance artistes. Manipuri dance was presented by Sudip Ghosh, Odishi by Sudarshan Sahoo, and Bharatnatyam by Santunu Chakraborty. The chief guest Swami Krishna Kant Maharaj, Guest of Honour Mr. Jayant Kastuwar, Secretary of Sangeet Natak Academy appreciated the importance for recognizing the contributions of Indian male artistes as they carry forward our tradition and culture either professionally or for earning their daily bread & butter. In our country, the careers of many female artistes are interrupted because of social responsibilities. This festival was dedicated to the cause of male artistes and their role in the preservation of our culture.

This ballet production with 25 members was done for charity and to give the massage for empathy towards the children residing in slums, the poor and from economically weaker backgrounds. Ms Sharmistha Mukherjee, the noted Kathak dancer was present as the Chief Guest.
